What happened
OpenAI’s October 30 release brings GPT-6 reasoning to Work and Codex for selected Research users. API access needs separate approval and uses gpt-6-rosalind. Chat has no Research option; Discovery remains on 5.5. No downloadable weights were announced.
Why it matters
For labs comparing results across experiments, the product name alone no longer identifies the model. Existing users can keep GPT-5.5 Research, so recording the version and access route matters for reproducibility.
What to watch
Enterprise administrators should check the two-week preview, which starts disabled, before scheduling a team rollout.
