What happened

The API identifier is gpt-6.1-sol. Standard pricing is $2 per million input tokens, $10 per million output tokens and $0.10 per million cached input tokens. The announcement lists Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu access in Work and Codex; it explicitly excludes ordinary Chat at launch.

OpenAI reports gains over GPT-6 Sol in coding, computer use and professional tasks. Its comparisons with Astra come from specified evaluations, not a guarantee of equivalent performance on every workload. This is hosted commercial access; the announcement does not release downloadable weights.

iNC / Analysis

Why it matters

The practical question is cost per completed, correct task. Lower token prices can widen the range of economical agent workflows, but retries, reasoning effort, tool use and human review still affect the bill. Teams should compare the models on their own documents and code before assuming benchmark gains translate into deployment savings. This recovered report keeps the original release date.

What to watch

Watch for independent evaluations and changes to access. The launch describes Sol Ultrafast as forthcoming, so it should not be confused with the standard model already released.
