What happened
The official changelog records rerank-3 and rerank-3-lite as active models recommended for new use. Their preview began September 1. They are accessed through Voyage AI services; this availability update does not establish an open-weight release. Earlier rerank-2.5 models moved to legacy status, not retirement. The lifecycle page lists no retirement dates for them.
Why it matters
Our analysis: reranking affects which retrieved documents enter an AI system’s answer context. Availability is meaningful for search deployments, but customers should evaluate relevance on their own data. No independent benchmark victory is claimed here.
What to watch
Watch pricing, latency and task-specific relevance; legacy status should not be mistaken for an immediate service shutdown.
