What happened

EndoQuest’s 5 November release reports two gastric reconstruction procedures at The Panama Clinic using its Endoluminal Surgical System. Physicians controlled instruments through the mouth; the announcement does not describe autonomous surgery.

The company calls the cases a world first and its first clinical upper-GI use. Those are attributed company claims. It says it is preparing a De Novo submission and targets a 2027 US launch, subject to FDA authorization; the device is not yet commercially available in the United States.

iNC / Analysis

Why it matters

The engineering question is whether flexible robotic instruments can make difficult suturing more reproducible. Two cases establish neither long-term benefit nor comparative safety. Results from older TORe studies and separate preclinical experiments cannot be transferred to these patients as if they were outcomes of this procedure.

What to watch

Watch for a published protocol, patient follow-up and adverse-event reporting, alongside regulatory decisions. Participation in an FDA development programme is not marketing authorization.
