What happened

Honda’s October 5 notice describes magnetic power transfer between road equipment and a vehicle receiver. Tests have taken place on a private roadway. Further work includes durability, electromagnetic leakage and transfer performance up to 150 kW; this is a testing target. Demonstrations on the Tateyama Expressway are planned from fiscal 2027, beginning April 2027.

iNC / Analysis

Why it matters

Our analysis: fleet routes offer a practical place to test the system because vehicles repeatedly use the same infrastructure. The announcement does not establish commercial readiness. Road maintenance, electricity supply and reliable charging at speed will determine whether the approach reduces operating constraints.

What to watch

Watch for measured efficiency, installation costs and public-road safety results before treating this as a deployed charging network.
